Our draft schedules for AFMC2024 are available below (v11e, updated 17 Nov 2024):

Please note that we cannot make any further changes involving relocation of talks between days or sessions.

Summarising the key details:

  • AFMC2024 is being held from Sunday 1 December to Thursday 5 December inclusive.
  • On Sunday 1 December, we will hold a Welcome Reception at Hotel Realm, starting from 5:30 pm and running to around 7:00 pm.
  • On Sunday 1 December, a Women in Fluid Mechanics social event is also being held from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Hotel Realm.
  • The main four days of the conference will be from Monday 2 December to Thursday 5 December, starting at 8:15 am or 8:30 am. The sessions will run through to 6:00 pm Monday to Wednesday, and to 4:00 pm on Thursday.
  • The registration desk will be open during the Welcome Reception on Sunday, and (depending on staffing) before the conference on Monday to Thursday, for distribution of name tags and kits.
  • A special Opening Session will be held on the morning of Monday 2 December, starting at 8:30am. More details will be posted here in due course.
  • Several events will be held on the evening of Monday 2 December, including the HDR Event, the ECR/MCR Event, and an Invited Speakers and AFMS Council Members dinner.
  • The Conference Banquet will be held on the evening of Tuesday 3 December. For details please see our Venues page.
  • The Poster Session will be held on Wednesday 4 December, during and after lunchtime. More details will be posted here soon.
  • Several tours will be held on the mid-afternoon (3:00-6:00 pm) on Wednesday 4 December. We are now going through risk assessments and approvals, and will provide more details when available.
  • A barbecue dinner will be held at Telopea Park, Barton, on the evening of Wednesday 4 December. For details please see our Venues page.
  • The Closing Session will be held on Thursday 5 December, for 3:00 - 4:00 pm. This will include an awards ceremony for the announcement of student awards and prizes. All students should be present for this last session.
  • An AGM for the AFMS will be held in the late afternoon on Thursday 5 December, starting at 4:30 pm, running through to around 5:15 pm.
