Call for Papers

Our call for abstracts for the 24th Australasian Fluid Mechanics Conference (AFMC 2024) closed on 31 May 2024. All review decisions were completed and notified to authors on 23 June 2024.

If accepted for oral presentation, you are now invited to submit your choice of full submission (listed full paper, non-listed full paper or extended abstract) for consideration.

We emphasise that you need to choose now between a listed full paper, non-listed full paper or extended abstract submission, each of which can lead to an oral presentation. Due to a tight conference schedule, each registered attendee can be the oral presenter for only one such submission. For example, if collaborators A, B and C collectively make 3 paper or extended abstract submissions, then A, B and C can be the oral presenter for one each. Participants who make multiple submissions beyond this restriction will face the risk that all submissions will be rejected.

The poster submissions have already been accepted. If you are a poster presenter, we have provided a link for you to submit your poster.

The Word and Latex templates for the paper and extended abstract submissions are available below. Please do not use the previous 1-page abstract templates.

  • Word template - listed and non-listed papers (6-8 pages)
  • Latex template - listed and non-listed papers (6-8 pages)
  • Word template - extended abstracts (2 pages)
  • Latex template - extended abstracts (2 pages)
  • AFMS Guidance to CC licensing of AFMC_papers
  • The submission system for papers is now open in Easychair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=afmc2024

We note that you need to make a second submission of your paper, extended abstract or poster. Log in to Easychair, go to your abstract, use the "Add or update files" button, and then submit your paper or extended abstract. For more detail, an instruction booklet is available here. Do not tamper with or update your original abstract, which is needed for our conference proceedings and forms part of your submission.

The papers or extended abstracts are due by 26 July 2024. These will be peer-reviewed (the extent of which will depend on the category) and the authors notified by 1 Sept 2024.

If you have any questions or difficulties, please drop us a line to the afmc email address given below.

We look forward to welcoming you to Canberra in December 2024 !

    Notes on Submission Types:
For those whose abstracts have been accepted, we call for your second submission across the following four publication types. The posters have been accepted, while the papers and extended abstracts will be subject to a second peer review process.
    1. Listed paper (6-8 pages): These will be listed individually in the proceedings, and will be subject to a standard peer review process (2 episodes). There will be an oral presentation associated with each submission.
    2. Non-listed paper (6-8 pages): These will be included in the proceedings as a single PDF file, and will be subject to a shorter peer review process (2 episodes). There will be an oral presentation associated with each submission.
    3. Extended abstract (2 pages): These will be included in the proceedings as a single PDF file, and will be subject to a shorter peer review process (2 episodes). There will be an oral presentation associated with each submission.
    4. Posters: Digital submissions of posters will be included in the proceedings as a single PDF file. These will be subject to a single peer review process, of the abstract only. There will be a poster presentation event during the conference but no oral presentation. The format requirements for the posters will be released shortly.

The listed papers will be indexed by databases such as Scopus, whereas the other submission types will not be indexed.

As with previous AFMC conferences, the AFMC 2024 organising committee also plan to work with the International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow to publish a special issue. This will involve an opt-in process by authors, followed by an appraisal of the conference paper and its oral presentation by a special issue panel, led by the IJHFF Special Issue Lead. Authors of the 30 most outstanding contributions which align with the scope of the IJHFF will be invited to make to make a third submission of an extended manuscript, for consideration for publication in this special issue.
