AFMS Awards and Grants

AFMC2024 will include a number of awards, grants and prizes, supported by the Australasian Fluid Mechanics Society and several corporate sponsors.

  • AFMS Student Participation Awards The AFMS has offered up to 10 Participation Awards for Students to attend AFMC2024. These awards serve to encourage students to engage in high-quality research that can be presented in person through participation in AFMC2024 by providing free student registrations. Please refer to the AFMS website for more details. These applications have now closed.

  • AFMS Return-to-Work Grants The AFMS has offered up to 5 Return-to-Work Grants for staff who have had an extended career break for reasons of parental, carer responsibilities or illness. This is designed to allow successful applicants to participate in AFMC2024 and thereby re-engage with the Fluid Mechanics community. Please refer to the AFMS website for more details. These applications have now closed.

  • The new AFMS Fellows and AFMS Emerging Leader awards will also be presented during the conference.

AFMS Photo and Video Competition

The AFMS is also running a Photo and Video Competition which aims to highlight the beauty, diversity and applications of fluid mechanics using visual media. This competition is open to all students, with 3 awards ($500, $300 and $200 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively) for each category (photo and video). Judging criteria will include appeal to the general public, artistic merit, educational value, scientific novelty and promotion of fluid mechanics. Entries will be showcased on the AFMS website, the AFMS social media channels and at AFMC2024 in Canberra.

More details on the rules and judging criteria, provided in the flyer and submission form, are posted on the AFMS website.

For this competition, entries should be submitted to the AFMS directly via afms.admin@gmail.com.

The judging sheet will be posted here shortly.

In the Closing Ceremony on Thurs 5 December, the Student Presentation Prizes will be awarded, supported by several corporate sponsors (AOARD, Hexagon, Blink and eImaging). All HDR students should be present for this session.
