Program (Preliminary)

We can now provide some preliminary details of our program.

  • AFMC2024 is being held from Sunday 1 December to Thursday 5 December inclusive.
  • On Sunday 1 December, we will hold a Welcome Reception at Hotel Realm, starting from 5:30 pm and running to around 7:00 pm.
  • The main four days of the conference will be from Monday 2 December to Thursday 5 December, starting at 8:00 am or 8:30 am. The sessions will run through to 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm Monday to Wednesday, and to 4:00 pm on Thursday.
  • The registration desk will be open during the Welcome Reception on Sunday, and (depending on staffing) from 7:30 am - 9:00 am Monday to Thursday, for distribution of name tags and kits.
  • A special Opening Session is being planned for the morning of Monday 2 December, starting around 8:30am. More details will be posted here when available.
  • Several events are being planned for the evening of Monday 2 December, including the HDR Event, the ECR/MCR Event, and an Invited Speakers and AFMS Council Members dinner.
  • The Conference Banquet will be held on the evening of Tuesday 3 December. For details please see our Venues page.
  • The Poster Session is being planned for Wednesday 4 December, during and after lunchtime. More details will be posted here shortly.
  • Several tours are being planned for the mid-afternoon (3:30-6:00 pm) on Wednesday 4 December. We are now going through risk assessments and approvals, and will provide more details when available.
  • We are planning a barbecue dinner in a local park on the evening of Wednesday 4 December. This event is pending approval from the ACT Government.
  • The Closing Session is being planned for Thursday 5 December, for 3:00 - 4:00 pm. This will include an awards ceremony for the announcement of student awards and prizes.
  • A business meeting for AFMS Council Members will be held late on Thursday 5 December, starting at 4:30 pm.

As noted in our Visas and Travel page, due to prevalent Canberra early-morning fog (which causes flight cancellations and delays), we do not recommend flying into Canberra on the morning of Monday 2 December. Instead, we suggest you arrive on Sunday evening, or earlier, so you can enjoy our city and be prepared for the conference.

We will provide a more detailed scientific and social program soon.
